about

‘After Humanity’

The debut album from solo artist James Parker, formerly of UK noise rockers Hey Colossus and lo-fi doom metallers Gorse.

The album is James’ first foray as a solo act, with an overall melancholy feel driven by viewing humanity’s recent efforts from a safe distance. This does however have the benefit of helping the varying styles on show sit together. So although there is a fairly big jump from a subtler, ‘shoegaze’ and drone-oriented feel to some harder-edged songs through the album, there is a palpable doomy mood that permeates.

Covering such topics as ecological neglect, political irresponsibility and a future where people are ever more overlooked for profit, the lyrical subject matter certainly isn’t fun and games, but it’s done with integrity and soulfulness. And musically there’s an effort made to offer subtle interlocking guitar/vocal melodies in balance with hazy noise and atmosphere, anchored by simple rhythms.
